The detours for the current projects will utilize state and county roadways. A minimal number of local streets will be included in the detour routes for the ramp closures on the Pulaski Skyway.

Take time to travel smarter.

The following detours will be in place to facilitate traffic flow during construction. Traffic engineers and local police will be monitoring key intersections on local Jersey City streets.

• The Pulaski Skyway northbound Broadway exit ramp to Jersey City will be closed.
  • Motorists on the Pulaski Skyway northbound wishing to take the Broadway ramp to Jersey City will be directed to continue north on the Skyway.
  • Take the next exit ramp for Tonnele Circle.
  • Once in the Circle, motorists can continue onto Route 1&9 northbound; or
  • Motorists wishing to travel onto Route 1&9 southbound or Route 1&9 Truck southbound should proceed through the Circle to Route 1&9 northbound.
  • Make a U-turn at County Road and proceed onto Route 1&9 southbound.


• The Broadway entrance ramp to the southbound lanes of the Pulaski Skyway will be closed. NJDOT will be signing a detour along Route 1&9 T southbound to accommodate motorists diverted away from this Pulaski Skyway entrance.

Additionally, intermittent full weekend closures of the Pulaski Skyway will be implemented periodically throughout construction:

• Northbound Closure and Detour
  • The northbound closure will begin past Newark Liberty International Airport with the Route 1&9 Express Lanes directed onto the Local Lanes. Traffic will follow Route 1&9 Truck northbound to the intersection of Route 7, Route 139, and Route 1&9 in Jersey City.
  
  
  • Northbound motorists heading to Hoboken, Jersey City, or New York City may also use the New Jersey Turnpike-Hudson County Extension (I-78 eastbound).


• Southbound Closure and Detour
  • The southbound closure on Route 139 lower roadway will begin over the Tonnele Circle. All traffic coming from Route 139 will be directed to take the off ramp to I-280/Route 7 and Route 1&9 Truck southbound.
  
  
  • In addition, the ramp from the Tonnele Circle to Pulaski Skyway southbound will also be closed. Traffic on Route 1&9 southbound heading toward Tonnele Circle is encouraged to stay right and use the prior ramp to Route 1&9 Truck.
