Construction Staging

Stage One

• The three through lanes on Route 440 southbound will be shifted to the right using the outside shoulder as a through lane.
• The left lane of Route 440 northbound will be shifted to the southbound roadway using a temporary crossover through the median.
• The crossover lane will continue to carry northbound traffic and be separated from southbound traffic by a concrete median. The two remaining through lanes on the Route 440 northbound roadway will be shifted to the left or inside of the bridge. Once the travel lanes are shifted, the rightmost or outside portion of the bridge deck and girders will be removed and the new sections of the superstructure will be lifted into place.
• Three through lanes will be maintained for northbound and southbound traffic.
• The exit ramp from Route 440 northbound to Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) westbound will be closed for nine (9) days, from Friday, June 4 at 10 pm to Monday, June 14, 2010 at 5 am.

Stage Two

• The left lane of Route 440 northbound will use the crossover lane on the southbound side of Route 440.
• The two through lanes maintained on the Route 440 northbound side of the roadway will be shifted to the newly reconstructed (right side) of the bridge.
• Three through lanes will be maintained for northbound and southbound traffic.
• The exit ramp from Route 440 northbound to Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) westbound will be open to traffic except the weekend beginning Friday, June 18 at 10 pm to Monday, June 21, 2010 at 5 am.
• The ramps under Route 440 northbound which include ramps from Route 440 southbound, Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) eastbound and westbound and the New Jersey Turnpike Toll Plaza departure ramp that leads to Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) westbound or the New Jersey Turnpike Toll Plaza reentry (U-turn) will be closed for a three (3) hour period each week night during construction.
• Additionally, these ramps are permitted to be closed between 11 pm and 8 am on weekends.
